The name Kamloops, a city in British Columbia, is an anglicized version of the Secwepemc word "Tk̓emlúps," which means "where the rivers meet". This place is the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers, and has been the home of the Tk̓emlúpsemc, or "people of the confluence," for centuries. Secwepemc is still spoken in the area by Tk'emlúps peoples.
